Phosphate coating is a porous crystalline conversion coating that forms when the surface metal chemically reacts with the coating solution. Being porous in nature allows the phosphate coating the ability to hold oils which gives it anti-galling and anti-corrosion properties. Phosphate can also be used as a base coat for painting, dry film lubricants, waxes, and lacquers.
